Proceeds from this piece will benefit Victim Services of Huron County, which rescued seven girls and women from human trafficking last year. The team is going full-force after educational and prevention initiatives to bring the number of victims and perpetrators down to zero next year.

Domestic assault. Accidental death. Chemical dependency. Workplace injury. Identity theft. Weather calamity. Burglary. Vandalism. Sexual assault. Cyber harrassment. Layoff. Threats. No human should have to deal with these hardships; very few are prepared for them; not a single victim is legitimately able to fend for themselves when the tragedy strikes.
 
Emotional support. Transportation to safety. Access to professional services. And, often, teams of volunteers who show up where they're needed most -- to accompany a child to school, clean and repaint a hall, sit in a waiting room or help bring in the harvest.
